Daylight Filmmakers

Rob Cohen (Director) brought one of the most extensive and successful track records as a filmmaker to Daylight--everything from director to producer to executive producer to production executive.

Daylight is the third feature Cohen has directed for Universal Pictures in tandem with Executive Producer Raffaella De Laurentiis, following on the heels of Dragonheart and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

Earlier in his career, Cohen directed the highly acclaimed A Small Circle of Friends and Scandalous. Of the three Miami Vice episodes he directed for friend Michael Mann, one was nominated for an Emmy and another was one of the highest rated in the entire run of the show.

As an Executive Producer, Cohen had a hand in a long list of features that includes The Witches of Eastwick (starring Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer and Cher, from a script developed with Michael Christofer), The Razor's Edge (starring Bill Murray), The Running Man (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger), Ironweed (starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep) and The Serpent and the Rainbow.

Cohen's credits as a producer include the Universal feature films Bird on a Wire (starring Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn) and The Hard Way (starring Michael J. Fox and James Woods); Light of Day (partnered with Keith Barish and also starring Fox); The Legend of Billy Jean (starring Helen Slater); and three projects he developed as Executive Vice President of Motown Pictures: Mahogany and The Wiz (both starring Diana Ross) and The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings (starring Richard Pryor and Billy Dee Williams).

As Director of Television Movies at 20th Century-Fox Television, Cohen developed numerous projects, including Mrs. Sundance and Stowaway to the Moon.

Cohen was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson in New York. He attended Harvard University, from which he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Visual and Enviromental Studies.

The daughter of legendary producer Dino De Laurentiis and actress Silvana Mangano, Raffaella De Laurentiis (Executive Producer) has emerged in her own right as a world class filmmaker.

Since striking out on her own in 1988 with Raffaella Productions, she has produced or executive produced such features as Backdraft, Time Bomb, Prancer, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Dragonheart, in addition to Daylight (the last three of which have been collaborations with director Rob Cohen).

Her next project is Universal Pictures' action-adventure Kull the Conqueror, starring Kevin Sorbo from MCA TV's hit series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

Immediately prior to forming Raffaella Productions, De Laurentiis had been serving as head of production for her father's company, De Laurentiis Entertainment Group (DEG). During her tenure, 14 films were produced, among them: the critically acclaimed Weeds (starring Nick Nolte) and the hit comedy Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, which launched the career of Keanu Reeves.

De Laurentiis began her career as a producer on location in Bora Bora for her father's 1977 disaster epic Hurricane. With time, talent and equipment on hand, the young De Laurentiis produced Beyond the Reef, "very cheaply with 14 professionals and natives." Bigger budgets followed as she produced Conan the Barbarian (which launched Arnold Schwarzenegger as a star), the science fiction classic Dune, Conan the Destroyer (starring Schwarzenegger and Wilt Chamberlain) and Tai-Pan, based on the best-selling James Michener novel and the first American film made in China.

Born in Italy, De Laurentiis was educated at the Academy of Rome.

The Chairman of Davis Entertainment, John Davis (Producer) has produced more than 28 films--theatrical as well as television--over the past seven years, including the Kevin Costner epic Waterworld (with Charles Gordon and Kevin Costner), Richie Rich, the Tom Cruise blockbuster The Firm, Predator, Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men and The Chamber.

Davis is currently working on The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

On television, Davis has produced a number of major projects, including Truman Capote's One Christmas (starring Katherine Hepburn), Tears and Laughter and the mini-series Target Earth for NBC; top-rated CBS movie This Can't Be Love (again starring Katherine Hepburn along with Anthony Quinn) and The Last Outlaw (starring Mickey Rourke and Dermot Mulroney) for HBO.

Joseph M. Singer (Producer) came to Hollywood just three years ago from Wall Street. In that short time, he has put a number of high-profile features into active development.

Singer and screenwriter Leslie Bohem jointly conceived and developed the idea for Daylight. In addition, Singer's Courage Under Fire (starring Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan) had a summer 1996 release. Projects in various stages of development include It Takes a Thief and Dudley Do Right for Universal Pictures; a remake of Doctor Doolittle for Fox; Conklin's Living Room for Interscope; Booker T. Briggs with Denzel Washington for Tri-Star; and a new project with Bohem.

As President of Davis Entertainment, David T. Friendly (Producer) oversees all aspects of the company's film development and production. Working with Chairman John Davis, Friendly has earned Producer credits for Daylight and Courage Under Fire (starring Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan). In tandem with Davis, Friendly executive produced The Chamber.

Friendly came to Davis Entertainment after a four-year stint as President of Production at ImagineEntertainment, overseeing development and production on many of the company's film projects, including My Girl, Kindergarten Cop, Backdraft, The Dream Team and The Burbs. He served as Executive Producer on My Girl 2, For Love or Money and Greedy.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Friendly started out as a journalist, following in the footsteps of his father, the noted television newsman Fred Friendly. He came to Los Angeles with Newsweek, moved to the Los Angeles Times, then joined Imagine.

Leslie Bohem (Screenwriter) comes from a show business family--his Oscar nominated father Andre at various times was a writer, director, producer and film executive, and his mother was a reader at Paramount and a film and television writer.

Bohem initially pursued a career in the music business, heading such cutting edge groups as Bates Motel, Gleaming Spires and Sparks, while penning hit songs for the likes of Freddy Fender, Tommy Smothers and Jerry Reed (for which he earned a gold record).

Eventually gravitating back to the movies, Bohem's writing credits include The Horror Show, A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 and Kid. He is currently working on a project with Daylight producer Joseph Singer.

Bohem also undertook a rewrite of his father's script Twenty Bucks. Unfortunately, Andre didn't live to see production start on the project, which was produced and presented at the Sundance, Deauville and London Film Festivals.
